Chester Zoo has had great success with it's breeding program with the birth of 2 Visayan Tarictic Hornbill chicks and one Writhed Hornbill chick!
The births are significant particularly because the Visayan Tarictic Hornbill chicks are the first to be born in the United Kingdom. These birds will be on display in The Islands in Danger enclosure at the zoo. The Writhed Hornbill nested for 123 days which is a record length of time for a Hornbill to nest in a nest box. The Writhed Hornbill will be displayed at the Tropical Realm section of Chester Zoo.
Chester Zoo has quite a good selection of birds and whatever you may feel about birds being i zoos, there is no doubt the conservation work is valuable for birds that are rare in the wild. Look forward to seeing them!
